“Please, sit back, watch and listen”. This phrase appears – as an introduction - in one of the works making up this compilation. Its message can be applied to the other selected works. Please, sit down again, watch and listen. It is an invitation above all else. An invitation to immerse oneself in a series of ideas that reflect on the profound transformations that – yet again – are taking place in the field of the moving image. It is not cinema, it is not video, it is not net art… well, not just those things. Hybrid projects draw a confusing map of a territory yet to be defined in which various experiments are possible. We are once again at a starting point. We still do not know what the language of the new media will be – for the moment, we have some small ideas. The authors investigate the possibility of remixing our visual benchmarks (cinema, television, video clips… ) with new tools applied to new contexts. The possibility of using our environment to create narrative or to leave it behind. The possibility of redefining the montage process and the role of the viewer/user. The possibility of using algorithmic procedures to re-organise images and information, cover traditional genres or investigate new paths. Please, sit down again, a lot of things might happen. Sit down again, watch and listen, but not only that. Please sit down again… and participate.
Clara Alba and Andrea García Méndez are the people behind a mínima:: It is a project which aims to make the ideas of artists and researchers interested in the involvement of science and technology in culture and art visible. a mínima:: is generating an enormous documentary archive and establishing a network of collaborations. For the last three years, they have produced a bimonthly printed publication dealing with art and biology, robotics, software art, net art, research networks and social aspects related to new technologies.
